Knoxville survives Huntsville comeback, wins 4-2

The Knoxville Ice Bears survived a determined comeback attempt by the Huntsville Havoc on the way to a 4-2 win.

Knoxville made the score 4-1 on a goal by Matt Pierce at 4:25 in the third period, and Huntsville got as close as 4-2 when Nick Lazorko scored 11:29 into the third period.

The Havoc's power play was ineffective against the Ice Bears' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

With 28 shots on target during the contest, Knoxville exceeded the 24.8 shots it averages per game this year.

The Ice Bears were helped by Jeremy Klaver, who tallied one goal. Klaver scored on the power play 30 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Knoxville. Brendan Taylor assisted on the tally. Knoxville also got points from Taylor, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Eric Satim, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Knoxville came via Steve Wiedler, Mark Van Vliet, Peter Neal, Jon Higgins, and Emery Olauson, who contributed one a piece.

The 40 shots that Huntsville put on net surpassed the Havoc's average of 20.3 shots per game this season.

Huntsville was helped by Mike Gurtler, who registered one goal. Gurtler scored 16:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Knoxville. Ian Boots picked up the assist. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Paul DAgostino and Kyle Laughlin, who each chipped in one.

Bryan Hince rejected 38 shots on goal for Knoxville. The Ice Bears incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Jesse Kallechy recorded 24 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
