Louisiana wins tough contest against Mississippi Surge, 3-2Cajundome Sun, Feb 24, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Louisiana IceGators gutted out a close 3-2 win against Mississippi Surge. Louisiana gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matthew Robertson 5:20 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. Robertson had a great game for the IceGators, netting two goals. Louisiana's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Mississippi Surge power plays. The IceGators relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Robertson, Troy Ofukany and Matt Lawrance took 13 of the team's 24 shots. Louisiana additionally got points from Jeremey Boyer, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Shawn McNeil, who had two and Tyler Lyon and Kirk Byczynski, who contributed one a piece. The 25 shots that Mississippi Surge put on net surpassed Mississippi Surge's average of 19.0 shots per game this season. Mississippi Surge was helped by Matt Ridley, who finished with one goal. Ridley scored 8:56 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi Surge. Branden Kosolofsky assisted on the tally. Kyle Kudroch also scored for Mississippi Surge. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Matt Gordon, Adam Stuart, and Jeff Grant, who each chipped in one. Riley Gill recorded 23 saves for Louisiana. The IceGators totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Mississippi Surge's Kiefer Smiley stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced.
