Fayetteville boosted by Emond's play in net, beats Columbus 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Marco Emond helped the Fayetteville FireAntz defeat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 4-1.

Fayetteville was paced by Derek Elliott, who had one goal. Elliott scored on the power play 11:11 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. The FireAntz had taken the advantage when Columbus' Chris Bailer got sent off for interference. Mike Gurtler assisted on the tally.

Fayetteville stifled the Cottonmouths' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The FireAntz's offense rang up 34 shots on Columbus' net.

Fayetteville additionally got points from Gurtler, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Bobby Reed, who also registered one goal and one assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Josh McQuade as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Tristin Llewellyn, who had two and Brock Sawyer, Brandon Richardson, Kyle McNeil, and Andrew Smale, who contributed one a piece.

The Cottonmouths relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Sam Bowles, Jonathan Redlick and Derek Pallardy took 16 of the team's 31 shots. Columbus could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Cottonmouths were led by Jordan Braid, who scored the team's only goal. Braid scored 5:02 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Alex MacLeod picked up the assist.

Emond rejected 30 shots on goal for Fayetteville. The FireAntz incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ian Vigier made 30 saves for Columbus on 33 shots. The Cottonmouths registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
