Suffolk Juniors vanquishes New York Apple Core in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Suffolk Juniors defeated New York Apple Core in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Suffolk Juniors saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Suffolk Juniors made the score 4-2 on a power play goal by Joseph Quinn at 18:55 in the second period. New York Apple Core evened things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Will Guido at 11:37 in the third period.

Suffolk Juniors pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

Suffolk Juniors forced New York Apple Core's netminders to work in net, totaling 47 shots and forcing 42 saves. Dominic Lamanno made 12 stops and Madison Martin made 30.

Suffolk Juniors was led by Michael Vaiano, who tallied two goals and one assist. Vaiano scored the first of his two goals at 56 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Suffolk Juniors. Vaiano's next tally made the score 3-2 Suffolk Juniors with 4:23 left in the second period. Suffolk Juniors had gotten the advantage when New York Apple Core's James Delahanty was sent off for roughing. Quinn picked up the assist. Suffolk Juniors additionally got points from Quinn, who also registered one goal and one assist. Suffolk Juniors also got a goal from Ryan Maraldo as well. Other players who recorded assists for Suffolk Juniors were Daniel Lore, who had one and Joseph Bizzaro, who had two.

New York Apple Core kept Suffolk Juniors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Eric Tatarian made 30 saves on 34 shots. New York Apple Core was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 22 penalty minutes.

New York Apple Core was led by Andrew Cunningham, who racked up two goals and one assist. Cunningham scored the first of his two goals at 3:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Suffolk Juniors. Travis Quigley assisted on the tally. Cunningham's next tally made the score 2-2 with 16:17 left in the second period. Quigley picked up the assist. New York Apple Core also got points from Colton Schnall, who also finished with one goal and one assist. More assists for New York Apple Core came via Vladimir Korotin, Dillon Radin, Phil Laurelli, and James Loglisci, who each chipped in one.

Suffolk Juniors registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. New York Apple Core registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
