Jersey Wildcats' Matos deadly on offense in 4-1 win against New York Apple CoreAspen Ice at Randolph Sat, Jan 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Michael Matos was all over the ice for Jersey Wildcats, as he tallied two goals in Jersey Wildcats' 4-1 win over New York Apple Core. Matos scored at 5:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Jersey Wildcats and again while 10:46 into the second to make the score 3-1 Jersey Wildcats.Jersey Wildcats' Peter Andersson was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 39 saves and let only one puck past him. Andersson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.46 entering the contest. Jersey Wildcats' penalty kill excelled, as Jersey Wildcats gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Jersey Wildcats stifled New York Apple Core's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Jersey Wildcats kept New York Apple Core's goalie busy throughout the game, and Madison Martin made 29 saves on 33 shots. Jersey Wildcats also got a goal from Carmine Taffo as well. More assists for Jersey Wildcats came via Brett Perry, Kyle Davey, Alex Kempinski, and Christopher Butryn, who each chipped in one. New York Apple Core forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game New York Apple Core had been spending in the box. New York Apple Core could not produce up to it normal offensive output. New York Apple Core puts an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game. Jersey Wildcats was unable to stop New York Apple Core from sending pucks towards the net, and New York Apple Core eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. New York Apple Core was led by Andrew Cunningham, who scored the team's only goal. Cunningham scored 15:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Travis Quigley provided the assist. Jersey Wildcats incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For New York Apple Core, Michael Buffoleno was ejected from the game.
