New York Apple Core uses shootout to best Suffolk Juniors, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as New York Apple Core defeated Suffolk Juniors in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Suffolk Juniors' shootout goal was scored by Brandon Gaynor. New York Apple Core's other shootout goal was scored by James Delahanty.

New York Apple Core got the win with help from a great game by Kieran Hurley, who had one goal and two assists. Hurley scored 6:41 into the first period to make the score 2-0 New York Apple Core. Andrew Cunningham assisted on the tally.

New York Apple Core's offense rang up 33 shots on Suffolk Juniors' net.

New York Apple Core also got points from Will Guido, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Cunningham, who also had one goal and one assist. New York Apple Core also got a goal from Brian OSullivan as well. In addition, New York Apple Core received assists from Delahanty, Dillon Radin, and Joe Finneran, who each chipped in one.

Suffolk Juniors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Suffolk Juniors forced New York Apple Core goalie Dominic Lamanno to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Suffolk Juniors was helped by Michael Vaiano, who grabbed one goal. Vaiano scored on the power play 11:12 into the first period to make the score 2-1 New York Apple Core. Suffolk Juniors had taken the advantage when New York Apple Core's James Loglisci got sent off for tripping. Salvatore Geraci provided the assist. Suffolk Juniors additionally got points from Michael Gioia, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Joseph Quinn also scored for Suffolk Juniors. Other players who recorded assists for Suffolk Juniors were Axl Frisina, Anthony Modica, Steven Azzara, and Ryan Maraldo, who contributed one a piece.

Dominic Lamanno made 27 saves for New York Apple Core on 31 shots. New York Apple Core incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Anthony Pupplo rejected 28 shots on goal for Suffolk Juniors. Suffolk Juniors incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Suffolk Juniors ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Michael Guidi was ejected from the game.
