Mass Maple Leafs blows out Springfield Jr Pics, 11-2

Mass Maple Leafs had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 11-2 win over Springfield Jr Pics.

Joseph Fernandes had two goals and three assists to lead Mass Maple Leafs. Fernandes scored the first of his two goals at 10:08 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Mass Maple Leafs. Patrick Hayes picked up the assist. Fernandes' next tally made the score 7-2 Mass Maple Leafs with 6:54 left in the second period. Colin Cordeiro assisted on the tally.

In a losing effort, Springfield Jr Pics was led by Zachary Smith, who had two goals. Smith scored the first of his two goals at 8:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield Jr Pics. Robert Smith provided the assist. Smith's next tally made the score 4-2 Mass Maple Leafs with 12:56 left in the second period. Christopher Breault assisted on the tally.

Mass Maple Leafs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Springfield Jr Pics to score on any of its five power plays. Springfield Jr Pics was unable to stop Mass Maple Leafs from sending pucks towards the net, and Mass Maple Leafs eventually piled up 60 shots on goal. Mass Maple Leafs' goal total was higher than its season average. This season, Mass Maple Leafs averages 6.4 goals per contest.

Mass Maple Leafs also got points from Hayes, who also tallied two goals and one assist and Caleb Doherty, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Mass Maple Leafs also had goals scored by Michael Sorenti, who had three and Ryan McCarthy and Kurtis Garcia, who each put in one. In addition, Mass Maple Leafs received assists from Nicholas Cambria, who had two and Trevor Berman, Sidney Thomas, Samuel Jenkins, and Emilio Botelho, who contributed one a piece.

Springfield Jr Pics was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. Springfield Jr Pics had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game. Springfield Jr Pics kept Mass Maple Leafs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Lucas Paulson made 35 saves on 37 shots.

More assists for Springfield Jr Pics came via Tyler Reopel, who had one.

Mass Maple Leafs incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jacob Smith made 49 saves for Springfield Jr Pics on 60 shots. Springfield Jr Pics ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nicholas Halbach was ejected from the game.
