Mass Maple Leafs penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Junior Bruins

Mass Maple Leafs' penalty kill was superb, as Mass Maple Leafs survived multiple penalties to beat Junior Bruins, 5-2.

Mass Maple Leafs was sparked by Nicholas Menzel, who had one goal. Menzel scored on the power play 2:05 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Mass Maple Leafs. Mass Maple Leafs had gained a power play chance when Jordan Hanahan was whistled for cross checking. Michael Jessman assisted on the tally.

Mass Maple Leafs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Mass Maple Leafs forced Junior Bruins goalie Benjamin Gagnon to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Mass Maple Leafs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Mass Maple Leafs also got a goal from Michael Sorenti as well. More assists for Mass Maple Leafs came via Adam McGrath, who had one.

The Junior Bruins penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. Junior Bruins surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Junior Bruins was held below its usual level of production. Junior Bruins puts an average of 6.2 pucks into the net per game. Mass Maple Leafs was unable to stop Junior Bruins from sending pucks towards the net, and Junior Bruins eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Junior Bruins' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Junior Bruins gives up 2.5 goals per game.

Junior Bruins was helped by Tucker Falk, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Falk scored 5:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Junior Bruins. John Buchanan provided the assist. Junior Bruins additionally got points from Buchanan, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Junior Bruins received assists from Michael Centerbar and Dommichael Piccini, who contributed one a piece.

Mass Maple Leafs' Cody Stocker stopped 37 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Mass Maple Leafs registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. Benjamin Gagnon made 36 saves for Junior Bruins on 41 shots.
