Suffolk Juniors survives penalties, beats Frederick Freeze, 9-3

Frederick Freeze failed to take advantage of its power play opportunities and Suffolk Juniors shook off a number of penalties to win, 9-3.

Suffolk Juniors forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 14 minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Suffolk Juniors had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. Suffolk Juniors forced Frederick Freeze's goalies to work without much rest, racking up 55 shots and forcing 46 saves. John Ketzenberger made 33 stops and Daniyal Hannan made 13. Suffolk Juniors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Frederick Freeze to score on any of its 10 power plays. Suffolk Juniors bested its season scoring average. Suffolk Juniors averages 5.3 goals per game.

Suffolk Juniors was helped by Daniel Lore, who tallied one goal and two assists. Lore scored 1:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Suffolk Juniors. Salvatore Geraci assisted on the tally. Suffolk Juniors additionally got points from Joseph Bizzaro, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Casey OLeary, who also registered one goal and one assist, Steven Azzara, who also had one goal and one assist, Alex Posillico, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Geraci, who also had two goals and one assist. Suffolk Juniors also got a goal from Axl Frisina as well. Other players who recorded assists for Suffolk Juniors were Christopher Shanahan and Ryan Maraldo, who each chipped in one and Anthony Modica and Michael Vaiano, who contributed two a piece.

Frederick Freeze racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Frederick Freeze surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Frederick Freeze was led by Ben Margolis, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Margolis scored the first of his two goals at 18:23 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Suffolk Juniors. Evan Klein provided the assist. Margolis' next tally made the score 9-3 Suffolk Juniors with 1:42 left in the third period. Klein assisted on the tally. Alexander Olson also scored for Frederick Freeze. In addition, Frederick Freeze received assists from Aaron Shiohama, who had one.

Eric Tatarian recorded 27 saves for Suffolk Juniors. Suffolk Juniors registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
