Potomac squeaks by Hampton Roads, 5-3

The Potomac Patriots and the Hampton Roads Whalers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Potomac made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Judd Parker's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Matthew Reynolds was all over the ice for the Patriots, as he finished with two goals in the win. Reynolds found the back of the net 10:24 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Potomac and again while 11:46 into the third to make the score 4-2 Potomac.

Hampton Roads' power play was ineffective against Potomac's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Patriots stifled the Whalers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hampton Roads was unable to stop Potomac from sending pucks towards the net, and the Patriots eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. Potomac bested its season scoring average. The Patriots average 2.9 goals per game. Potomac got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. The Patriots could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Micah Dabao also scored for Potomac. More assists for Potomac came via Steven Frankel, who had one and Tyler Nolan, who had two.

The Whalers' offense rang up 44 shots on Potomac's net.

Hampton Roads was led by Regen Cavanagh, who tallied three goals. In addition, Hampton Roads received assists from Jacob Toro, Jordan Shannon, Alexander Dempsey, and Phoenix Dreer, who each chipped in one.

TJ Hollen made 41 saves for the Patriots on 44 shots. Potomac registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Brett Fordham rejected 42 shots on goal for the Whalers. Hampton Roads incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
