GAME RECAP

Philadelphia beats Frederick 3-1 after comeback scare

Warwick Ice Rink 1    Sat, Feb 23, 2013

The Frederick Freeze tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Philadelphia Revolution held on for a 3-1 victory.

Philadelphia made the score 3-0 on a goal by Alex Dyer at 25 seconds in the third period, and Frederick got as close as 3-1 when Richard Novodomec scored 18:46 into the third period.

The Revolution's Jared Burch was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 28 saves and let only one puck past him. Burch managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.2 prior to the game.

Philadelphia's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Frederick power plays. The Freeze were unable to stop the Revolution from sending pucks towards the net, and Philadelphia eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

The Revolution were led by Connor Bechtel, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Bechtel scored on the power play 14:38 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Philadelphia. Philadelphia earned a power play opportunity when Nicholas Price was put in the box for tripping. Travis Kauffman picked up the assist. Zachary England also scored for Philadelphia. More assists for Philadelphia came via Chris Connor, who had one.

The Frederick penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Freeze surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Frederick was held below its usual level of production. The Freeze put an average of 4.8 pucks into the net per game.

In addition, Frederick received assists from Zachary Pard and Adam Taylor, who each chipped in one.

The Revolution incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Michal Marcinek rejected 39 shots on goal for Frederick.
