Bay State uses shootout to best Junior Bruins, 4-3 (3-1 SO)Rockland Arena Sat, Feb 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Bay State Breakers defeated Junior Bruins in a shootout 4-3 (3-1 SO). The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout. Junior Bruins got a shootout goal from Zach Koonce. In addition to the clincher, Bay State got shootout goals from Gavin Yates and Bradley Power.The Breakers overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Bay State fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Junior Bruins' Vince DAmato at 4:31 in the first period. The Breakers tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Kevin Sheehan at 18:42 in the third period. Yates was all over the ice for Bay State, as he registered two goals in the win. Yates scored on the power play at 7:46 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Junior Bruins and again while on the power play 10:51 into the first to make the score 3-2 Junior Bruins. The Breakers stifled Junior Bruins' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Bay State kept Junior Bruins' goalie busy throughout the game, and Sam Dargene made 43 saves on 47 shots. The Breakers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. More assists for Bay State came via Ryan ODonnell, who had two and Cullen Hussey, Henry Nelson, Redmund Hunt, and Power, who contributed one a piece. Bay State was unable to stop Junior Bruins from sending pucks towards the net, and Junior Bruins eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Junior Bruins struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays. Junior Bruins was led by Koonce, who finished with one goal and one assist. Koonce scored 29 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Junior Bruins. DAmato provided the assist. Junior Bruins additionally got points from DAmato, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ryan OToole also scored for Junior Bruins. In addition, Junior Bruins received assists from Michael Kantorski, who had two and Brian Fahey and Alexander Pantalone, who each chipped in one. Hunt rejected 41 shots on goal for the Breakers. Bay State incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Junior Bruins registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
