Springfield rolls over Salem, 9-2

The Salem Ice Dogs had trouble finding ways to stop the Springfield Pics, which beat Ice Dogs, 9-2.

Brandon Korytko was all over the ice for Springfield, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Korytko scored on the power play 14:29 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Springfield. The Pics earned a power play opportunity when Aaron Reddick was put in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. Jeremy Wich assisted on the tally.

Springfield forced Salem's netminders to work without much rest, racking up 67 shots and forcing 58 saves. Shawn Horton made 48 stops and Bradley Radin made 10. The Pics' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Springfield averages 4.1 goals per contest. The Pics were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

Springfield also got points from Matthew Antonacci, who also had one goal and two assists, Garrett Torrico, who also registered one goal and two assists, Stefan Koproske, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Alec Robinson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Springfield included Conner Brochu, who had one and Thane Schinabeck, who had two. More assists for Springfield came via Zachary Prout, who had two and Christopher Breault, Joe Mercadante, Mario Fontanella, Robert Smith, and Zachary Smith, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Dogs were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 68 penalty minutes.

Maximillian DelVento also scored for Salem. Other players who recorded assists for Salem were Nicholas Latham, Tom Laus, and Bennet Curcuru, who contributed one a piece.

Springfield's Randall Smith stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Pics incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Salem registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Ice Dogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Head Coach was ejected from the game.
