Springfield wins tough contest against Adirondack, 4-2RPI Houston House Sun, Feb 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Springfield Pics gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Adirondack Junior Wings. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Matthew Antonacci's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Garrett Torrico had two goals and one assist to lead Springfield. Torrico scored the first of his two goals at 1:11 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. Torrico's next tally made the score 2-0 Springfield with 17:16 left in the second period. The Pics had taken the advantage when Adirondack's Sam Vincent got sent off for holding. Antonacci assisted on the tally. Springfield pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes. The Pics' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Adirondack power plays. Springfield also got points from Antonacci, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mario Fontanella also scored for Springfield. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Thane Schinabeck and Robert Smith, who each chipped in one. The Junior Wings' offense rang up 42 shots on Springfield's net. Adirondack was led by Matt Flynn, who tallied one goal and one assist. Flynn scored 5:05 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Vincent provided the assist. Adirondack also got a goal from Ryan Flynn as well. More assists for Adirondack came via Alex Fraser and Brian Daury, who contributed one a piece. The Pics' Matthew Blascak stopped 40 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Springfield registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Crae Messer rejected 17 shots on goal for the Junior Wings. Adirondack incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
