Atlanta takes care of Potomac early, wins 7-0Marietta Ice Center Sun, Feb 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Potomac Patriots fell behind early, and the Atlanta Knights kept piling on the points on the way to a 7-0 victory. Lucas Thurston spearheaded the defensive effort for Atlanta, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 28 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Thurston will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.65. The Knights pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 20 penalty minutes. Atlanta's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Potomac power plays. Potomac was unable to stop the Knights from sending pucks towards the net, and Atlanta eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. The Knights found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Atlanta has scored at the pace of 4.6 goals per game during the current campaign. The Knights' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Atlanta was helped by Nick Elliott, who grabbed one goal. Elliott scored on the power play 8:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Atlanta. The Knights had taken the advantage when the Patriots' Shane Barber got sent off for slashing. Bradley Harley provided the assist. Atlanta additionally got points from Harley, who also had one goal and one assist and Jon Gibson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Atlanta also had goals scored by Austin Ventura, who had two and Patrick MacDonald and Zachary Egan, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Atlanta were Se Kim, Jack Trischett, James Elias, Kienan Fenton, and Cole Stallard, who contributed one a piece and Rick Fiorillo and harris m, who each chipped in two. Potomac could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Patriots average 2.8 goals per game. Potomac was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 18 penalty minutes. Atlanta registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. The Patriots' TJ Hollen stopped 42 shots out of the 49 that he faced.
