Valley erases deficit to stun Portland, 3-2

The Valley Junior Warriors rallied from two goals down to secure a 3-2 win over the Portland Jr Pirates.

Valley never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Junior Warriors trailed 2-0 after a power play goal by Portland's Taylor Browne at 3:58 in the second period. Valley knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Michael McWeeney at 14:28 in the third period. The Junior Warriors scored the game winner at 15:50 in the third period on a goal by McWeeney.

Valley was led by Matthew Culot, who racked up one goal.

The Junior Warriors' offense rang up 35 shots on the Jr Pirates' net.

Valley also got a goal from Brandon Tuttle as well. In addition, Valley received assists from Rory OConnor and Morgan MacLean, who each chipped in one.

Portland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Valley power plays.

The Jr Pirates were helped by Evan Jewell, who finished with one goal. Jewell scored on the power play zero seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Portland. More assists for Portland came via Robert Downing and Gregory Lodge, who contributed one a piece.

Valley's Matt Pearless stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Junior Warriors incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Cam Riddle made 32 saves for Portland on 35 shots. The Jr Pirates incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
