Jersey Hitmen survives Suffolk comeback, wins 3-2

The Suffolk Juniors tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but Jersey Hitmen would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Jersey Hitmen made the score 3-0 on a goal by Robby Marsanico at 15:54 in the first period, and Suffolk got as close as 3-2 when Michael Martino scored 12:49 into the third period.

The Juniors' power play was ineffective against Jersey Hitmen's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Jersey Hitmen penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. Jersey Hitmen surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Jersey Hitmen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Suffolk power plays. Jersey Hitmen kept Suffolk's goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Potter made 32 saves on 35 shots.

Jersey Hitmen was helped by Nazhir Gichibekov, who racked up one goal. Gichibekov scored 8:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Jersey Hitmen. Jonathan Spada picked up the assist. Jersey Hitmen also got a goal from James Martello as well. In addition, Jersey Hitmen received assists from Eddie Coxe, Corey Leskanic, and Collin Kirkpatrick, who contributed one a piece.

The Juniors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Suffolk forced Jersey Hitmen goalie Jordan Hulahan to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Michael Leone also scored for Suffolk. More assists for Suffolk came via Daylin Frantin, Benjamin Sorkin, Christopher Seeback, and Jason Reiter, who each chipped in one.

Hulahan recorded 30 saves for Jersey Hitmen. Team's Chris Peterson and Marsanico were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Juniors incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
