OConnor nets hat trick, leads Valley to 5-0 win over PortlandHaverhill-North 1 Sat, Feb 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
A hat trick by Rory OConnor was the highlight in Junior Warriors' 5-0 win against the Portland Jr Pirates. OConnor's first goal came 5:29 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:52 into the second and at 13:57 into the third.The Valley Junior Warriors were boosted by Matthew Saraceno, who turned in a shutout with 25 saves. Saraceno certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.73 entering the contest. Valley excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Junior Warriors kept Portland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Christopher Storey made 26 saves on 31 shots. Valley could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game. Valley also got a goal from Luke Miller as well. In addition, Valley received assists from Eriberto Cordero and Lincoln Vamos, who each chipped in one and Brendan Heinze, Brendan Philippon, and Matthew Culot, who contributed two a piece. The Jr Pirates could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Portland puts an average of 2.4 pucks into the net per game. The Jr Pirates could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game. The Junior Warriors registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Valley, Miller and Vamos were ejected from the contest. Team's Robert Kerns and Deivids Jasis were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
