Fontanella's big game bests Adirondack in 6-2 Springfield win

The Springfield Pics' Mario Fontanella had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 6-2 win over the Adirondack Junior Wings.

Fontanella scored at 4:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield and again while short handed 53 seconds into the third to make the score 5-1 Springfield.

Springfield's penalty kill excelled, as the Pics gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Springfield penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Pics surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Springfield made Junior Wings' netminders to work without much rest, totaling 45 shots and forcing 39 saves. Chet Tooker made 33 stops and Crae Messer made six. The Pics' goal total was higher than their season average. Springfield averages 3.8 goals per game.

Springfield also got points from Joe Mercadante, who also had one goal and two assists and Thane Schinabeck, who also registered two goals and two assists. Springfield also got a goal from Cameron Beaulieu as well. More assists for Springfield came via Logan Schinabeck, Matthew Antonacci, Zachary Prout, Robert Smith, and Michael Wytrych, who contributed one a piece.

The Pics were unable to stop Adirondack from sending pucks towards the net, and the Junior Wings eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Adirondack was led by David Wilgocki, who finished with one goal. Wilgocki scored 4:21 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Andrew Bourdeau also scored for Adirondack. In addition, Adirondack received assists from Matt Flynn and Brian Daury, who each chipped in one.

Matthew Blascak rejected 31 shots on goal for Springfield. The Pics registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Junior Wings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
