Islanders downs Salem, 5-1

William Platt had two points to lead Islanders to a 5-1 victory over the Salem Ice Dogs.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:58 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Islanders racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Islanders had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Islanders put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Salem to score on any of its five power plays. Islanders forced the Ice Dogs goalie Shawn Horton to work between the pipes, taking 64 shots.

Islanders also got points from Thomas Missert, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Islanders also got a goal from David Wilcox as well. Other players who recorded assists for Islanders were Kirill Frolov, who had two and Joshua Vernot, Jonathan Pate, and Alfonso Diaz, who contributed one a piece.

Salem was led by Nicholas Latham, who scored the team's only goal. Latham scored 14:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1.

Michael Kitts recorded 14 saves for Islanders. Islanders registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For Islanders, Cody Reagan was ejected from the game. Shawn Horton made 59 saves for the Ice Dogs on 64 shots. Salem ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Ice Dogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Daniel Duggan was ejected from the game.
