Atlanta takes care of Hampton Roads early, wins 12-1

A five-goal first period deficit cost the Hampton Roads Whalers, which could not recover and fell to the Atlanta Knights, 12-1.

Atlanta got the win behind a great game by Patrick MacDonald, who had one goal and three assists. MacDonald scored 4:09 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Atlanta. Bradley Harley picked up the assist.

The Knights forced Whalers' goalies to work in net, getting 44 shots and forcing 32 saves. Taylor Brost made three stops and Tyler Kraft made 29. Atlanta found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Knights average 4.2 goals per game. The defensemen of Atlanta were also effective in Hampton Roads' zone, and came away with two goals.

Atlanta also got points from Harley, who also had one goal and one assist, Christopher Santa Maria, who also racked up two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, Se Kim, who also tallied two goals and one assist, and Jack Trischett, who also registered two goals and one assist. Rick Fiorillo also scored for Atlanta. In addition, Atlanta received assists from Alex MacInnis, who had two and Austin Ventura, Matthew Benz, Sage Dugas, Cale Massa, and Nick Elliott, who contributed one a piece.

The Whalers were held below their usual level of production. Hampton Roads puts an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game.

Sean Davis rejected 15 shots on goal for the Knights. Atlanta incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Whalers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
