Syracuse survives Adirondack comeback, wins 4-2

The Adirondack Junior Wings tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Syracuse Junior Stars would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Syracuse made the score 4-1 on a goal by Nate Zweig at 4:12 in the third period, and Adirondack got as close as 4-2 when Ryan Flynn scored 17:01 into the third period.

Zweig was all over the ice for the Junior Stars, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Zweig scored the first of his two goals short handed at 14:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Syracuse. Syracuse played down a man on Ryan Suwek's cross checking. Zweig's next tally short handed made the score Syracuse with 15:48 left in the third period. Mike Seifert provided the assist.

The Junior Stars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Adirondack power plays. Syracuse forced the Junior Wings goalie Chet Tooker to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Syracuse also got a goal from Nicholas Mercurio as well. In addition, Syracuse received assists from Joey Rutkowski and Garth Gray, who contributed one a piece.

Adirondack's offense rang up 45 shots on the Junior Stars' net.

More assists for Adirondack came via Matt Flynn and Sam Vincent, who each chipped in one.

Matt Schneider made 43 saves for Syracuse on 45 shots. The Junior Stars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Tooker recorded 37 saves for the Junior Wings. Adirondack incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
