Atlanta shrugs off penalties, upends Hampton Roads, 7-2Chilled Ponds I.S.C. Sat, Feb 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Atlanta Knights were able to defeat the Hampton Roads Whalers, 7-2. Atlanta was led by Nick Elliott, who registered one goal and one assist. Elliott scored on the power play 3:36 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Atlanta. The Knights had gotten the advantage when Hampton Roads' Jeremy Wilson was sent off for roughing. Cole Stallard picked up the assist. The Whalers were unable to stop Atlanta from sending pucks towards the net, and the Knights eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. Atlanta bested its season scoring average. The Knights have scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Atlanta also got points from Patrick MacDonald, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Atlanta included Raurie Petrich, who had two and Rick Fiorillo, Christopher Santa Maria, and Jack Trischett, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Atlanta were James Elias, who had one, Se Kim, who had two, and Bradley Harley, who had three. Hampton Roads struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays. The Whalers were helped by Regen Cavanagh, who had one goal. Cavanagh scored on the power play 8:10 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Atlanta. Hampton Roads had gained a power play chance when Petrich was whistled for tripping. In addition, Hampton Roads received assists from Brett Fordham, who had one. Sean Davis recorded 21 saves for Atlanta. The Knights incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Tyler Kraft made 40 saves for the Whalers on 47 shots. Hampton Roads registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
