Springfield rides Blascak to victory over Connecticut, 3-1

Olympia Ice Center    Sun, Jan 27, 2013

Mario Fontanella was all over the ice for the Springfield Pics, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Springfield's 3-1 win over the Connecticut Oilers.

Fontanella scored 14:56 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matthew Antonacci picked up the assist. Fontanella dished an assist on Stefan Koproske's goal that made the score 2-1 Springfield at 12:57 into the third period. He added another helper on Thane Schinabeck's goal that made the score 3-1 Springfield at 19:19 into the third period.

Connecticut was unable to stop the Pics from sending pucks towards the net, and Springfield eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. The Pics found themselves short handed often, totaling 23 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Brandon Korytko and Logan Schinabeck, who contributed one a piece.

The Oilers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 32 penalty minutes.

Connecticut was led by Stephan Seeger, who scored the team's only goal. Seeger scored on the power play 19:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Connecticut. The Oilers had taken the advantage when Springfield's Michael Wytrych got sent off for grabbing face mask. Todd Brown assisted on the tally.

The Pics' Matthew Blascak stopped 28 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Springfield registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Christopher Bastone rejected 44 shots on goal for Connecticut.
