Oda, Flynn lead Adirondack over Buffalo, 7-4

Behind two goals and one assist from Nicholas Oda and one goal and two assists from Ryan Flynn, the Adirondack Junior Wings downed the Buffalo Stars 7-4.

Oda scored the first of his two goals short handed at 1:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Adirondack. Adirondack found itself down a man on Alex Fraser's cross checking. Oda's next tally short handed made the score 3-1 Adirondack with 16:00 left in the second period. The Junior Wings had gotten the advantage when Buffalo's Cam Turner was sent off for slashing. Cam Shepardson picked up the assist. Flynn scored on the power play 8:25 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Adirondack. Adirondack had taken the advantage when the Stars' Tyler States got sent off for slashing. Shepardson assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:41 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Junior Wings forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 18 minors and one major for 81 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Adirondack had been spending in the box. The Junior Wings forced Buffalo's goalies to work all game long, getting 51 shots and forcing 44 saves. Thomas Brown made 19 stops and Lawson Fenton made 25. Adirondack's goal total was higher than its season average. The Junior Wings have scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Adirondack also got points from Flynn, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Dustin Lavalley, who also had one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Adirondack included Joey Eben, who had one and Andrew Bourdeau, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Adirondack were Brian Daury and Shane Kanaly, who contributed one a piece.

The the Stars penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 21 minors and one major for 77 minutes in penalty time. Buffalo surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Stars outdid their season average for goals scored. Buffalo averages 1.6 goal per game.

The Stars were led by Patrick Schmelzinger, who finished with two goals and two assists. Schmelzinger scored the first of his two goals at 5:15 into the third period to make the score 6-3 Adirondack. John Colvin picked up the assist. Schmelzinger's next tally made the score 6-4 Adirondack with 4:32 left in the third period. Buffalo was on a disadvantage when Kyler Johnson went off the ice for holding. Buffalo additionally got points from Tyler Furst, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Michael Harris also scored for Buffalo. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Brennan Conway, who had one.

Adirondack's Crae Messer stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Junior Wings registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. Team's Daury and Kanaly were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Stars registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Buffalo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Leo Blore was ejected from the game.
