Hampton Roads survives East Coast comeback, wins 4-3

Chilled Ponds I.S.C.    Sat, Jan 26, 2013

The East Coast Eagles tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Hampton Roads Whalers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Hampton Roads made the score 4-2 on a goal by Regen Cavanagh at 10:38 in the third period, and East Coast got as close as 4-3 when Graff Richards scored 17:52 into the third period.

The Eagles' power play was ineffective against the Whalers' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Hampton Roads additionally got points from Jacob Toro, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Craig Boyd, who also had one goal and one assist. Dillon Kivo also scored for Hampton Roads. More assists for Hampton Roads came via Jeremy Wilson, who had two.

The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Eagles had been spending in the box. Hampton Roads was unable to stop East Coast from sending pucks towards the net, and the Eagles eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.

East Coast also got a goal from Connor Sheehey as well. In addition, East Coast received assists from Christopher Grosvenor, who had two and Matthew Burleson and Thomas Gilmartin, who each chipped in one.

Taylor Brost recorded 45 saves for the Whalers. Hampton Roads incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. East Coast's Ryan Taylor stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. For the Eagles, Grosvenor was ejected from the game.
