Russo leads Bay State over Islanders, 7-4

The Bay State Breakers' Nicholas Russo had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 7-4 win over Islanders.

Russo scored 11:17 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Bay State. Alex Soviero provided the assist. Russo dished an assist on John Duranczyk's goal that made the score 3-0 Bay State at 2:31 into the second period. He added another helper on Duranczyk's goal that made the score 6-2 Bay State at 4:23 into the third period.

Bay State's penalty kill excelled, as the Breakers gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Bay State made Islanders' goaltenders to work between the pipes, launching 48 shots and forcing 41 saves. Brenden Tidman made 28 stops and Michael Kitts made 13. The Breakers stifled Islanders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Bay State surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Breakers average 4.1 goals per contest. Bay State got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Bay State also got points from Duranczyk, who also grabbed two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Christopher Perry, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Kevin Sheehan, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Gavin Yates also scored for Bay State. More assists for Bay State came via Ryan ODonnell, who had two and Dan Gibbons, Redmund Hunt, and Bradley Power, who each chipped in one.

The Breakers were unable to stop Islanders from sending pucks towards the net, and Islanders eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. Islanders struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 46 penalty minutes for 13 opposing power plays.

Islanders was helped by Keith Barnaby, who racked up two goals. Barnaby scored the first of his two goals at 4:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Bay State. William Platt assisted on the tally. Barnaby's next tally made the score 5-2 Bay State with 9:57 left in the second period. A tripping call on Christopher Maksut put Islanders on the penalty kill. Platt picked up the assist. Islanders additionally got points from RJ Tiorano, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Islanders also got a goal from Daniel Giffone as well. In addition, Islanders received assists from David Wilcox and Jonathan Pate, who contributed one a piece.

Hunt recorded 44 saves for Bay State. The Breakers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Islanders, Platt was ejected from the game.
