Frederick blows out Buffalo, 5-1

The Frederick Freeze had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Buffalo Stars.

Frederick was paced by Casey Donegan, who finished with one goal and one assist. Donegan scored on the power play 12:22 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Frederick. The Freeze had gotten the advantage when Buffalo's Brendan Brown was sent off for roughing. Adam Gnatowski assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:38 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Frederick's offense rang up 68 shots on the Stars' net.

Frederick additionally got points from Reid Bibb, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Zachary Pard, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Richard Novodomec, who also had one goal and one assist. Adam Taylor also scored for Frederick. In addition, Frederick received assists from Ian Soifer, who had two and Nicholas Price and Florian Cotera, who each chipped in one.

The Buffalo penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The Stars had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Buffalo was led by Blake Germony, who scored the team's only goal. Germony scored on the power play 7:17 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Frederick. The Stars had gained a power play chance when Soifer was whistled for roughing. John Colvin picked up the assist.

Daniel Dolliver recorded 20 saves for the Freeze. Frederick totaled 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 2-for-8 on the power play. The Freeze ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Donegan was ejected from the game. Buffalo's Lawson Fenton stopped 63 shots out of the 68 that he faced. The Stars registered one goal on one power play opportunities. For Buffalo, Justice Rogers was ejected from the game.
