Connecticut vanquishes Jersey Hitmen in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Connecticut Oilers defeated Jersey Hitmen in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Connecticut came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Oilers fell behind 4-2 after a power play goal by Jersey Hitmen's Eddie Coxe at 17:26 in the second period. Connecticut knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Nicholas Desimone at 15:37 in the third period.

With three goals and two assists between them, Desimone and Philip Prins teamed up to power the Oilers' offense. Desimone grabbed two goals and Prins also added one goal and two assists.

Connecticut forced Jersey Hitmen goalie Ryan Glander to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Connecticut additionally got points from Prins, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Connecticut also got a goal from Hunter Jurman as well. Other players who recorded assists for Connecticut were Connor Dahlman, Mark Leprine, Todd Brown, and Thomas Worsfold, who each chipped in one.

Jersey Hitmen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Oilers to score on any of their five power plays. Jersey Hitmen's offense rang up 58 shots on Connecticut's net. The defensemen of Jersey Hitmen were also effective in the Oilers' zone, and came away with three goals.

Jersey Hitmen was helped by Ruslan Rakhmatov, who tallied two goals. Rakhmatov scored the first of his two goals at 1:49 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Jersey Hitmen. Dylan Stephanik picked up the assist. Rakhmatov's next tally made the score 3-1 Jersey Hitmen with 12:26 left in the second period. Vincenzo Addeo assisted on the tally. Jersey Hitmen also got points from Coxe, who also registered one goal and one assist and Joe Masonius, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Jersey Hitmen received assists from Chris Peterson, David Kleyman, and Brendan Riley, who contributed one a piece.

Christopher Bastone rejected 54 shots on goal for Connecticut. The Oilers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jersey Hitmen's Glander stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Jersey Hitmen incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
