Syracuse survives Adirondack comeback, wins 4-2

The Syracuse Junior Stars, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Syracuse and clinched a 4-2 victory.

The Junior Stars led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Syracuse's Nicholas Mercurio's scored at 3:14 in the second period to put the Junior Stars up 4-1.

Syracuse's penalty kill excelled, as the Junior Stars gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Syracuse was paced by Anthony Angello, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Angello scored short handed 12 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Syracuse. Jesse Farabee provided the assist.

The Junior Stars forced Junior Wings' netminders to work between the pipes, finishing with 35 shots and forcing 31 saves. Chet Tooker made 11 stops and Matt Cologgi made 20. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Syracuse also got points from Mercurio, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Syracuse also got a goal from Tyler OMara as well.

The Adirondack Junior Wings stifled Syracuse's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Adirondack forced the Junior Stars goalie Matt Schneider to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Junior Wings were helped by Nicholas Oda, who finished with one goal. Oda scored on the power play 7:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Adirondack. Adirondack had gained a power play chance when Mateo Capriotti was whistled for checking from behind. Shane Kanaly assisted on the tally. Matt Flynn also scored for Adirondack. More assists for Adirondack came via Andrew Bourdeau, Sam Vincent, and Jarrett Distasi, who contributed one a piece.

Schneider rejected 35 shots on goal for Syracuse. The Junior Stars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Junior Wings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
