Valley vanquishes Bay State in shootout, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Valley Junior Warriors defeated the Bay State Breakers in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Valley's other shootout goal was scored by Brandon Tuttle.

The Junior Warriors' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Bay State power plays. Valley kept Bay State's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matthew Farrell made 34 saves on 39 shots.

The Junior Warriors were helped by Matthew Culot, who registered two goals. Culot scored the first of his two goals at 2:37 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Timothy Perron provided the assist. Culot's next tally made the score 4-3 Valley with 12:08 left in the third period. Valley also got a goal from Brendan Heinze as well. In addition, Valley received assists from Tuttle and Luke Miller, who each chipped in two.

The Breakers forced Valley goalie Matthew Saraceno to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Bay State was helped by Bradley Power, who finished with two goals. Power scored the first of his two goals at 2:47 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Ryan ODonnell assisted on the tally. Power's next tally made the score 4-4 with 11:28 left in the third period. ODonnell picked up the assist. Bay State additionally got points from ODonnell, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Aaron Fiske also scored for Bay State. Other players who recorded assists for Bay State were Henry Nelson and Kevin Sheehan, who contributed one a piece and Christopher Perry and Nicholas Russo, who each chipped in two.

The Junior Warriors' Saraceno stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Valley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Breakers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
