Jersey Wildcats beats Buffalo 5-4 after comeback scare

Jersey Wildcats survived a determined comeback attempt by the Buffalo Stars on the way to a 5-4 win.

Jersey Wildcats took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Buffalo storm back on a Patrick Schmelzinger goal 16:28 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Geoffrey Liter and Erik Andersson provided the spark for Jersey Wildcats, combining for two goals and five assists. Liter had two goals and one assist and Andersson also notched zero goals and four assists.

The Stars were unable to stop Jersey Wildcats from sending pucks towards the net, and Jersey Wildcats eventually piled up 63 shots on goal. Jersey Wildcats' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Jersey Wildcats also got a goal from Ryan Strapp as well. In addition, Jersey Wildcats received assists from John Buckley, Jack Green, and Ryan Demgard, who each chipped in one.

Buffalo's offense rang up 36 shots on Jersey Wildcats' net. The Stars' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Buffalo averages 1.5 goal per contest. The Stars found themselves short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

Buffalo also got points from John Colvin, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Anthony Avarello also scored for Buffalo. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Blake Germony, who had two and Brennan Conway, Justice Rogers, and Matt Cohen, who contributed one a piece.

Grant Perry made 32 saves for Jersey Wildcats on 36 shots. Jersey Wildcats incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Thomas Brown rejected 58 shots on goal for Buffalo. The Stars registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
