Bay State hangs on, beats Hampton Roads 3-1

Nicholas Russo scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Bay State Breakers held off the challenges of the Hampton Roads Whalers in a tough 3-1 win.

Russo provided Bay State with the game-winning tally when he scored 17 seconds into the the first period. Thomas Cahill picked up the assist.

The Breakers were sparked by Christopher Perry, who racked up one goal and one assist. Perry scored 19:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Bay State. John Duranczyk provided the assist.

Bay State additionally got points from Ryan ODonnell, who also registered one goal and one assist and Russo, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Bay State were Henry Nelson, who had one.

Hampton Roads' offense operated below it season average. The Whalers put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game.

Hampton Roads was led by Alexander Dempsey, who scored the team's only goal. Dempsey scored 1:16 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Bay State. Craig Boyd picked up the assist.

Matthew Farrell recorded 22 saves for Bay State. The Breakers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Whalers' starting goalie, Taylor Brost, made 10 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Tyler Kraft, who stopped 12 shots. Hampton Roads incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
