Jersey Hitmen vanquishes Atlanta in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Jersey Hitmen defeated the Atlanta Knights in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Atlanta's shootout goal was scored by Rick Fiorillo. Jersey Hitmen also got a shootout goal from Robby Marsanico.

Jersey Hitmen came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Jersey Hitmen was down 3-2 after a goal by the Knights' Bradley Harley at 7:13 in the second period. Jersey Hitmen knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by James Martello at 8:41 in the second period.

In the losing effort, Atlanta was led by Cale Massa, who registered two goals. Massa scored the first of his two goals at 9:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Atlanta. Massa's next tally made the score 2-2 with 18:40 left in the second period. An elbowing penalty on Cory Sala had put the Knights on the power play. Harris m picked up the assist.

Jersey Hitmen kept Atlanta's goalie busy throughout the game, and Sean Davis made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Jersey Hitmen was led by Luke Rodgers, who tallied one goal and one assist. Rodgers scored 21:10 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Martello assisted on the tally. Jersey Hitmen also got points from Martello, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Joe Masonius also scored for Jersey Hitmen. Other players who recorded assists for Jersey Hitmen were Chris Peterson and Dylan Healey, who each chipped in one.

The Knights put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Jersey Hitmen to score on any of its three power plays. Atlanta gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Knights give up 1.8 goal per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

In addition, Atlanta received assists from Nick Elliott, who had one.

Jersey Hitmen took out Ryan Glander after he had made seven saves and installed Jordan Hulahan in goal, where he finished with 10 saves and the win. Jersey Hitmen incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Atlanta incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
