Florida Junior Blades hangs on, beats New Hampshire 4-2

Joshua Koerner scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and Florida Junior Blades held off the challenges of the New Hampshire Jr Monarchs in a tough 4-2 win.

Koerner provided Florida Junior Blades with the game-winning tally when he scored 6:59 into the the first period. Troy Degler assisted on the tally.

Florida Junior Blades pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

Florida Junior Blades was led by Chaise Howard, who racked up one goal. Howard scored on the power play 22:16 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Florida Junior Blades. Florida Junior Blades had taken the advantage when New Hampshire's Timothy Ward got sent off for elbowing. Koerner picked up the assist.

The Jr Monarchs were unable to stop Florida Junior Blades from sending pucks towards the net, and Florida Junior Blades eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

Florida Junior Blades additionally got points from Koerner, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Austin Hefferin also scored for Florida Junior Blades. Other players who recorded assists for Florida Junior Blades were Daniel Thompson and Max Cobb, who each chipped in one.

New Hampshire was held below its usual level of production. The Jr Monarchs put an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. New Hampshire forced Florida Junior Blades goalie Eric Sugrue to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots. The Jr Monarchs were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time.

New Hampshire was led by Christopher Moquin, who had two goals. Moquin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:58 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Florida Junior Blades. The Jr Monarchs had gained a power play chance when Chris Lepore was whistled for elbowing. Brent Beaudoin assisted on the tally. Moquin's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Florida Junior Blades with -262 seconds left in the second period. Connor Merrick picked up the assist. In addition, New Hampshire received assists from Brian Greene, who had one.

Florida Junior Blades' Sugrue stopped 52 shots out of the 54 that he faced. Florida Junior Blades registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Cole Burack made 47 saves for New Hampshire on 51 shots. The Jr Monarchs registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
