Potomac erases deficit to stun Tampa Bay, 5-4

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Potomac Patriots battled back to claim a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Juniors.

Potomac let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Patriots took a 4-3 advantage on a power play goal by Matthew Reynolds at 17:33 in the second period. Potomac found itself down 3-1 after Tampa Bay's JC Bradley put the puck home at 18:10 in the first period. After evening things up at 4-4 on a goal by Nicholas Reed at 19:38 in the second, the Patriots got the game-winner from Jack Strycharz at 21:57 in the second period.

Reynolds had a great game for Potomac, netting two goals.

The Patriots' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Potomac also got points from Micah Dabao, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Potomac also got a goal from Tyler Nolan as well. In addition, Potomac received assists from Miles Miller, Riley Wanat, Robert Santiago, Judd Parker, and Kyle Powers, who contributed one a piece.

The Juniors forced Potomac goalie Patrick Anderson to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Tampa Bay was helped by Austin Teall, who racked up one goal and one assist. Teall scored 53 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tampa Bay. Brent Barber provided the assist. Tampa Bay additionally got points from Nicholas Frankich, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Tampa Bay were Brendan Nicholson and Raven Woodring, who each chipped in two.

Anderson rejected 27 shots on goal for the Patriots. Potomac incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Juniors' Kyle Gertz stopped 23 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Tampa Bay incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
