Valley uses shootout to best Portland, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Valley Junior Warriors defeated the Portland Jr Pirates in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Valley came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Junior Warriors fell behind 3-2 after a goal by Portland's Liam Slyne at 11:50 in the third period. Valley knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Brandon Tuttle at 19:37 in the third period.

The Junior Warriors' penalty kill excelled, as Valley gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The Junior Warriors forced the Jr Pirates goalie Maxwell Boucher to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Valley also got a goal from Connor Donahue as well. In addition, Valley received assists from Matthew Culot and Lincoln Vamos, who contributed one a piece.

Portland excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Jr Pirates' offense rang up 48 shots on Valley's net.

Portland was helped by Dennis Patenaude, who racked up one goal. Patenaude scored on the power play 10:34 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Jr Pirates had gained a power play chance when Brendan Philippon was whistled for slashing. Deivids Jasis picked up the assist. Callen Morisseau also scored for Portland. More assists for Portland came via Ryan Locke, who had two and Justin Munck and Evan Jewell, who each chipped in one.

Matthew Saraceno made 45 saves for the Junior Warriors on 48 shots. Valley ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Boucher rejected 30 shots on goal for Portland. The Jr Pirates incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
