Hampton Roads beats Space Coast 9-0 as Wilson gets hat trick

Jeremy Wilson netted a hat trick to lead the Hampton Roads Whalers over the Space Coast Hurricanes, 9-0.

Wilson got on the scoresheet 2:23 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:21 into the first and at 14:33 into the second.

Hampton Roads managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Whalers wound up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Space Coast was unable to stop Hampton Roads from sending pucks towards the net, and the Whalers eventually piled up 55 shots on goal. Hampton Roads' goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Whalers average 4.0 goals per contest. The defensemen of Hampton Roads were also effective in the Hurricanes' zone, and came away with two goals.

Hampton Roads also got points from Thomas Gallo, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Maxwell Milutinovich, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Nick Jones, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Samuel Jenkins, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Regen Cavanagh also scored for Hampton Roads. More assists for Hampton Roads came via Grant Phillips, Jacob Toro, Phoenix Dreer, and Nathan Kanter, who each chipped in one and Craig Boyd, Michael Addison, and Adam Choc, who contributed two a piece.

Space Coast did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting eight shots on net to force eight saves.

Brett Fordham rejected eight shots on goal for the Whalers. Hampton Roads registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Hurricanes' Brendon Hanser stopped 46 shots out of the 55 that he faced. Space Coast incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
