Hampton Roads outlasts Tampa Bay, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Hampton Roads Whalers escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Juniors.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Nathan Kanter secured the win for Hampton Roads with a goal in the second period.

Kanter had one goal and three assists to lead the Whalers. Kanter scored on the power play 18:24 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Hampton Roads. Hampton Roads earned a power play opportunity when Zachary Capco was put in the box for slashing. Jonathon Jones provided the assist.

The Whalers' offense rang up 33 shots on Tampa Bay's net.

Hampton Roads also got points from Jones, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Hampton Roads also got a goal from Jeremy Wilson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hampton Roads were Jacob Toro, who had one and Artur Raevskiy, who had three.

The Juniors did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Tampa Bay puts an average of 6.1 pucks into the net per game.

The Juniors were helped by Brendan Nicholson, who had one goal. Nicholson scored 22:53 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Hampton Roads. Jesse Bafia also scored for Tampa Bay. More assists for Tampa Bay came via Dylan Longo, Brent Barber, Ryan Odgers, and Austin Teall, who contributed one a piece.

Taylor Brost made 20 saves for Hampton Roads on 23 shots. The Whalers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Emil Eriksson rejected 29 shots on goal for Tampa Bay. The Juniors incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
