Salem wins tough contest against Bay State, 3-2Rockett Arena Sat, Dec 15, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Salem Ice Dogs gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Bay State Breakers. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Raymond Jacques secured the win for Salem with a goal in the third period. Tom Laus was all over the ice for the Ice Dogs, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Laus scored 17:14 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Salem. Nicholas Latham picked up the assist. Salem's penalty kill excelled, as the Ice Dogs gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. Salem stifled Bay State's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Ice Dogs forced the Breakers goalie Redmund Hunt to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Salem was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes. Salem additionally got points from Justin McKelvey, who also finished with one goal and two assists. More assists for Salem came via Maximillian DelVento, who had one. Bay State was held below its usual level of production. The Breakers average 4.5 goals per game. The Ice Dogs were unable to stop Bay State from sending pucks towards the net, and the Breakers eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Bay State was helped by Connor Duffy, who racked up one goal. Duffy scored 12:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1. John Duranczyk assisted on the tally. Bay State also got a goal from Henry Nelson as well. Bradley Radin recorded 39 saves for Salem. The Ice Dogs registered one goal on zero power play opportunities. The Breakers' Hunt stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced.
