Springfield wins tough contest against Junior Bruins, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Springfield Pics escaped with a 3-2 victory over Junior Bruins.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Mario Fontanella at 8:06 of the third period.

Springfield was led by Fontanella, who racked up one goal.

The Pics put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Junior Bruins to score on any of its three power plays.

Springfield also got a goal from William Carrabino as well. In addition, Springfield received assists from Christopher Sattler, Nicholas Sibilia, Conner Brochu, Stefan Koproske, Thane Schinabeck, and Alec Robinson, who contributed one a piece.

Junior Bruins did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Junior Bruins averages 4.7 goals per game. Junior Bruins forced Springfield goalie Randall Smith to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Junior Bruins was led by Zach Koonce, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Koonce scored 13:54 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Junior Bruins. Matthew Brett provided the assist. Anthony Galloway also scored for Junior Bruins. More assists for Junior Bruins came via Bryan Carter and Kyle Carlson, who each chipped in one.

Smith rejected 41 shots on goal for the Pics. Springfield incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Junior Bruins' Maxwell Barr stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Junior Bruins incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
