Hampton Roads blows out Potomac, 6-3

The Hampton Roads Whalers had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-3 win over the Potomac Patriots.

Alexander Dempsey had a great game for Hampton Roads, netting two goals. Dempsey's tallies came on the power play at 4:41 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hampton Roads and 1:56 into the second to make the score 4-1 Hampton Roads.

The Whalers' penalty kill excelled, as Hampton Roads gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Whalers forced Potomac goalie TJ Hollen to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Hampton Roads' goal total was higher than its season average. The Whalers average 3.5 goals per game.

Hampton Roads also got points from Jonathon Jones, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Nathan Kanter, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hampton Roads also got a goal from Craig Boyd as well. More assists for Hampton Roads came via Michael Addison, who had one, Jacob Toro, who had three, and Jeremy Wilson and Regen Cavanagh, who each chipped in two.

The Patriots kept Hampton Roads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Kraft made 45 saves on 48 shots. Potomac's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Patriots finished with 38 penalty minutes.

Potomac was helped by Kyle Powers, who grabbed one goal. Powers scored 15:34 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Hampton Roads. Robert Santiago provided the assist. Jack Strycharz also scored for Potomac. In addition, Potomac received assists from Miles Miller, Judd Parker, Remi Paine, and Matthew Reynolds, who contributed one a piece.

The Whalers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Hollen rejected 36 shots on goal for the Patriots.
