Philadelphia takes care of Buffalo early, wins 7-0

The Philadelphia Revolution opened up a five-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 7-0 over the Buffalo Stars.

Philadelphia pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

The Revolution were led by Travis Kauffman, who grabbed one goal. Kauffman scored 27 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Philadelphia. Zachary England assisted on the tally.

Philadelphia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. The Revolution forced Buffalo goalie Alec Horwitz to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

Philadelphia also got points from Connor Bechtel, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Dylan Pearl, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Nicholas Minerva, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Joseph Kotlarczyk, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Daniel Coley also scored for Philadelphia. In addition, Philadelphia received assists from Chris Connor, who had one and Ross Asroff and William Hayden, who contributed two a piece.

The Stars forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Buffalo had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Philadelphia's defense shut down the Stars' forwards for much of the game, and Buffalo got off only 11 shots during the contest.

The Revolution's Justin Kirk stopped 11 shots out of the 11 that he faced. Philadelphia registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Horwitz rejected 32 shots on goal for the Stars. Buffalo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyler Johnson was ejected from the game.
