South Shore rips Springfield, 5-2

The South Shore Kings had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Springfield Pics.

Springfield's power play was ineffective against South Shore's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Kings capitalized on the Pics' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. South Shore could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Kings were helped by Evan Jacques, who racked up two goals. Jacques scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 South Shore. South Shore earned a power play opportunity when Michael Wytrych was put in the box for interference. Paul Marino picked up the assist. Jacques' next tally on the power play made the score 5-1 South Shore with 14:37 left in the third period. A cross checking penalty on Brandon Korytko had put the Kings on the power play. Philip Falkof assisted on the tally. South Shore also had goals scored by Kevin Divver, who had one and Arturs Buss, who had two. In addition, South Shore received assists from Paul Wagner, who had two and Stephen Rocchio, Corey Flynn, Christopher Oliveira, and Owen Campbell, who contributed one a piece.

Springfield was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Pics had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Springfield was led by Thane Schinabeck, who tallied one goal. Schinabeck scored on the power play 2:50 into the second period to make the score 3-1 South Shore. The Pics had taken the advantage when South Shore's Rocchio got sent off for boarding. Logan Schinabeck picked up the assist. Springfield also got a goal from Christopher Sattler as well. More assists for Springfield came via Alec Robinson, who had one.

The Kings' Kory LeBlanc stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Ian Milosz made 25 saves for Springfield on 30 shots. The Pics ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Korytko was ejected from the game.
