Atlanta rolls over Hampton Roads, 7-1

The Atlanta Knights were firing on all cylinders against the Hampton Roads Whalers, and when the final buzzer sounded Knights emerged with a 7-1 win.

Atlanta got the win behind a great game by Patrick MacDonald, who had one goal and two assists. MacDonald scored on the power play 4:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Atlanta. The Knights had gotten the advantage when Hampton Roads' Jeremy Wilson was sent off for boarding. Cole Stallard assisted on the tally.

Atlanta put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Whalers to score on any of their three power plays. The Knights kept Hampton Roads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Kraft made 44 saves on 51 shots. Atlanta's goal total was higher than its season average. The Knights average 4.2 goals per game. Atlanta's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Atlanta additionally got points from Bradley Harley, who also registered one goal and one assist and Austin Ventura, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Atlanta included Rick Fiorillo, who had two and Christopher Santa Maria and Cale Massa, who scored one goal each. In addition, Atlanta received assists from Jack Trischett, Zachary Egan, and Nick Elliott, who each chipped in two.

The Whalers could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Hampton Roads puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game.

Sean Davis made 16 saves for the Knights on 17 shots. Atlanta incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Whalers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
