Connecticut survives Portland comeback, wins 4-2SoNo Ice House Sun, Dec 02, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Portland Jr Pirates tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Connecticut Oilers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2. Connecticut made the score 4-0 on a goal by Evan Weisburger at 11:27 in the third period, and Portland got as close as 4-2 when Deivids Jasis scored 19:50 into the third period. Philip Prins had one goal and two assists to lead the Oilers. Prins scored 9:15 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Connecticut. Tyler Wilmot assisted on the tally. Connecticut's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Portland power plays. The Jr Pirates were unable to stop the Oilers from sending pucks towards the net, and Connecticut eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Connecticut also got a goal from Adam Luchak as well. More assists for Connecticut came via Stephan Seeger, who had two and Mark Leprine and Jack Gilson, who contributed one a piece. Portland struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 56 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays. Victor Papa also scored for Portland. Other players who recorded assists for Portland were Matt Ross, Nicholas Whitten, Taylor Browne, and Evan Jewell, who each chipped in one. Zachary Geller rejected 20 shots on goal for the Oilers. Connecticut incurred 54 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. The Jr Pirates' Maxwell Boucher stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced.
