Springfield uses fast start to beat Salem, 12-2

The Springfield Pics opened up a five-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 12-2 over the Salem Ice Dogs.

Springfield got the win thanks to a great game by Mario Fontanella, who had two goals and four assists. Fontanella scored the first of his two goals at 3:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. Cameron Beaulieu assisted on the tally. Fontanella's next tally made the score 10-2 Springfield with 11:49 left in the third period. William Carrabino picked up the assist.

The Pics stifled Salem's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Ice Dogs were unable to stop Springfield from sending pucks towards the net, and the Pics eventually piled up 62 shots on goal. Springfield outdid its season average for goals scored. The Pics have scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Springfield got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Springfield additionally got points from Carrabino, who also had one goal and two assists, Logan Schinabeck, who also finished with two goals and two assists, Joe Mercadante, who also grabbed two goals and three assists, Conner Brochu, who also registered one goal and one assist, Riley Green, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Thane Schinabeck, who also had three goals and two assists. In addition, Springfield received assists from Matthew Antonacci, Jeremy Wich, and Robert Smith, who contributed one a piece and Christopher Breault and Stefan Koproske, who each chipped in two.

Salem was led by Nicholas Latham, who tallied one goal and one assist. Latham scored short handed 9:59 into the second period to make the score 6-2 Springfield. A high sticking call on Tom Laus put the Ice Dogs on the penalty kill. Salem also got a goal from Aaron Reddick as well. Other players who recorded assists for Salem were Jonathan Parece, who had one.

Ian Milosz rejected 18 shots on goal for the Pics. Springfield incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Shawn Horton recorded 50 saves for Salem. The Ice Dogs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
