Heinze's big game bests Salem in 12-4 Valley win

Brendan Heinze had one goal and four assists to lead the Valley Junior Warriors to a 12-4 victory over the Salem Ice Dogs.

Heinze scored 2:40 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Valley. Luke Miller picked up the assist. Heinze dished an assist on Brendan Philippon's goal that made the score 2-1 Valley at 18:11 into the first period. He then added assists on Miller's goal at 7:19 into the second, on Miller's goal at 8:09 into the third, and on Miller's goal at 11:30 into the third.

Valley excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Junior Warriors' offense rang up 47 shots on Salem's net. Valley found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Junior Warriors average 3.8 goals per game.

Valley additionally got points from Rory OConnor, who also registered one goal and two assists, Philippon, who also finished with three goals and one assist, Matthew Culot, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Miller, who also had three goals and three assists to lead the team in points. Valley also had goals scored by Drew DiGeronimo, who had one and Brandon Tuttle, who had two. In addition, Valley received assists from Michael McWeeney, who had two and Timothy Perron, Mitchell Moran, and Morgan MacLean, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Dogs kept Valley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Pearless made 28 saves on 32 shots. Salem's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Junior Warriors' power play unit.

The Ice Dogs were led by David Spry, who registered two goals and one assist. Spry scored the first of his two goals at 11:07 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Valley. Aaron Reddick assisted on the tally. Spry's next tally made the score 4-3 Valley with 4:57 left in the second period. Justin McKelvey also scored for Salem. Other players who recorded assists for Salem were Nicholas Nonis and Tom Laus, who contributed one a piece.

Valley incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Bradley Radin made 35 saves for Salem on 47 shots. The Ice Dogs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
