Atlanta wins tough contest against Hampton Roads, 3-2Chilled Ponds I.S.C. Sat, Dec 01, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Atlanta Knights escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Hampton Roads Whalers. Atlanta gained the winning advantage on a goal by Cole Stallard 15:49 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. The Knights were led by Stallard, who tallied one goal and one assist. Atlanta's offense rang up 71 shots on Hampton Roads' net. The Knights could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game. Atlanta also got a goal from Christopher Santa Maria as well. In addition, Atlanta received assists from Austin Ventura, who had one and Bradley Harley, who had two. The Whalers kept Atlanta's goalie busy throughout the game, and Lucas Thurston made 34 saves on 36 shots. Hampton Roads was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The Whalers were led by Michael Addison, who racked up one goal and one assist. Addison scored on the power play 15:02 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A high sticking penalty on Cale Massa had put Hampton Roads on the power play. Jacob Toro provided the assist. Jonathon Jones also scored for Hampton Roads. More assists for Hampton Roads came via Nathan Kanter, who had one. The Knights registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Taylor Brost rejected 68 shots on goal for the Whalers. Hampton Roads registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
