Junior Bruins holds on for 4-2 win against Springfield

Junior Bruins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Springfield Pics on the way to a 4-2 win.

Junior Bruins took a 4-0 lead during the second period, only to have Springfield storm back on a Conner Brochu goal 12:53 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Robert Houghton had two goals and one assist to lead Junior Bruins. Houghton scored the first of his two goals at 4:50 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Junior Bruins. Kyle Carlson assisted on the tally. Houghton's next tally made the score Junior Bruins with 4:24 left in the second period. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Mario Fontanella had put Junior Bruins on the power play. Bryan Carter provided the assist.

Junior Bruins excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Pics were unable to stop Junior Bruins from sending pucks towards the net, and Junior Bruins eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Zachary Byczko also scored for Junior Bruins. More assists for Junior Bruins came via Cam Cottam, Matthew Brett, Benjamin Piecz, Zach Koonce, and Vince DAmato, who each chipped in one.

Springfield kept Junior Bruins' goalie busy throughout the game, and Sam Dargene made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Springfield also got a goal from Christopher Sattler as well. In addition, Springfield received assists from Logan Schinabeck, Nicholas Sibilia, and Riley Green, who contributed one a piece.

Junior Bruins totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Junior Bruins ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Daniel Pastl was ejected from the game. The Pics' Matthew Blascak stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Springfield incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
